My son needed to have a filling in his tooth and possibly an extraction under anaesthetic at the PRH. We arrived for the appointment at 12. 30 as advised; the nurses were lovely and undertook all the necessary preliminaries. However we were still waiting for the treatment at 4. 00 pm and my son was becoming increasingly difficult due to his autism.
When I asked what time the treatment was likely to take place I was told that they were not sure and there were emergencies to deal with. My son had not eaten since the previous evening and had nothing to drink since 11. 00 am. In the end I had to take my son home with no treatment.
I had taken a day off work and carefully prepared my son for the hospital visit ensuring that he had a positive view of the appointment; however this has all been ruined now and he is determined to never attend hospital appointments again.
