I had a missed miscarriage. I was booked into East Surrey Hospital for a surgical procedure under local anaesthetic to end the pregnancy. The anaesthetist arrived to consent me for general anaesthetic because he had been given the wrong information. He did not know the procedure for local anaesthetic. This was worrying. The surgery was delayed for a short time due to an emergency and a very angry consultant showed up. The consultant gave off to me for asking for a local, said it would not be happening at all if they had known what the registrar was doing and tried to force me and my surgeon to change to a general anaesthetic. The consultant very belligerent and bullying towards me, my husband and the staff. I insisted on the surgery continuing as planned and all went perfectly. The registrar was amazing.
The experience left me horrified. One doctor did not know the procedure and one tried to refuse me the surgery option I had consented to.
