"last days of my mums life"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow

(as a relative),

Last week my mum collapsed at home. I called NHS 24 and Jade sent a paramedic - Ross. He called an ambulance and My Mum got taken to resus at And E.

I was shown to a family room to wait for my relatives.

The Dr and nurses at a and e. were caring honest and efficient.

Mum was put into acute admissions unit 4.

Helen reassured me to go home and sleep at 1am.

Gave me the number and assured me to call as soon as I woke.

I arrived to see my mum before 8am and the lady Drs examined mum and told me the treatment she would be given. David offered my mum some wheatabix as she could not chew solids.

He was also kind enough to make me a strong cup of tea- Much appreciated.

Mum was transferred to Ward 8a and the porters allowed me to accompany her.

Over the next 5 days the treatment given to my mum was top notch. I was kept informed and was delighted by the efforts made by the whole team.

Thank you Jenifer, Emma, Lindsey, Dr Reid, Dr Mitchell and all of those who supplied an all round care service. (Cups of tea included ) Special thanks to the lovely Maureen who charmed my mum in her time of need. (You are a star).

Thanks so much

The new Southern has wonderful facilities that I am glad my mum lived to see such evolution of the NHS

The NHS should be proud of the people who work there.

My only gripe is Please Please provide more Staff -the team on ward 8a are run ragged and cannot continue to provide great care without more nurses. specially at night.

Response from Lorna Gray, Patient Experience, Public Involvement Project Manager, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde

Dear Mary's girls,

I am so sorry for the loss of your Mum, it is clear from the way you write about her that she was a much loved lady, who I'm sure will be very missed by you and the rest of your family.

I would like to thank you so much for your very detailed and heartfelt comments - I'm sure that this is still a very difficult time for you and it is a credit to the staff who looked after your Mum that you felt so strongly about re-telling her experience, and particularly that you remember so many of the names of the staff. This shows how much of an impact they had over those few days.

Your comments have already been sent on to the staff teams you mentioned, and I have also sent on to the wider service, including the management teams, to showcase the high standards that of care being provided by these members of staff.

That you took the time to write to us is much appreciated, and again my condolences and best wishes are with you.
