"Midwife was amazing"

About: Leighton Hospital

I was due to be induced on 17/7/15 when I got there they midwife on duty was fabulous and very attentive my labour journey had already started so I stayed in the bay until I was ready. I then was taken to the birthing pool where my labour slowed down. The decision was made to go to the labour suite where I was met by my new midwife after 14 hour hour labour - can I just say how amazing this midwife was. The midwife attended to my needs and made me feel very safe, and didn't take one break away from me and I am so greatful they got to see me give birth to my boy just before their shift finished. I was helped out using forceps by another brilliant registrar. 10/10 for all the care during labour the only let down was the after care upstairs I didn't get checked on once up there in the 12 hours and felt very alone. Massive thanks to all downstairs staff though.

Many thanks for the wonderful comments directed towards the labour ward staff. I will ensure they are shared with those involved. We appreciate all feedback which help us identify any concerns and when we have got care right for our mothers. I’m pleased to hear that we fulfilled your expectations. With kind regards Denise Horne, Manager, Labour Ward I am concerned to hear you did not experience the level of care which we expect to be delivered on the Maternity Ward. The ward staff continually strive to provide the highest standard of care possible and so I am disappointed to read the last sentence on your NHS Choices posting. Since the recent changes in staff configuration and refurbishment of ward facilities, the number of really positive feedback comments we have received is phenomenal. Please accept my sincere apologies for your experiences. I have informed all members of staff of your posting and I will continue to monitor standards of care provided. If you wish to discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact me via the customer care team on 01270 278098. Sara Nightingale, Manager, Maternity Ward 23
