My consultation was terrible,my neurologist had 4rooms going at same time and kept rushing from room to room,.when I eventually got to talk to them they had no notes or history apart from the referral letter from my own neurologist which briefly explained why i was being referred to them, they spent 5 minutes jotting stuff down, and had no interest in how my illness affected me,or anything else they only looked at me once.at one point the consultant was saying they couldn't do anything to help me that hadn't already been tried,I waited almost a year for my appt and travelled over 400 miles to see the consultant i was so excited to finally be there and at last getting to meet them,I felt after watching the series about the centre that I was going to be treated amazingly but,I was crying my eyes out,not one bit of compassion was shown either from the consultant or any staff member, however they said "I suppose we can send you for an xray", After seeing my xray the consultant changed and said "yes you need surgery",asked if I wanted it,I mean come on,I have an excruciatingly painful brain disease which in laymans term is known as 'the suicide disease' and came all this way for their expertise, and that was that, After a 2 minute explanation of my brain surgery I was out as quick as I went in. I traveled home four hours heartbroken at the consultation,I no how busy they are but I left there knowing the consultant hardly knew a thing about me only what my disease was and the surgery they were going to perform..I had had 7 previous brain surgery's and they only asked what they were, the consultant never asked how the affected me or how I had been after them, nothing, only that they would be doing an operation on me that hadn't been tried on me already, also the consultant said they hadn't done it for anyone with my disease before and said it might help but maybe wouldn't, I was left feeling shattered, upset, scared and desperately worried as the consultant was going to be giving me brain surgery and they hardly knew a thing about me other than what was said in the very short time we spoke...so as you can imagine the 10 months I then waited to have the surgery were very hard, anyway the day came for my admission, still everything was very vague, still hardly anything was asked about my illness,my previous op's, or me in general. that whole day when I was so scared about my op the next day was very lonely, everyone was so busy that very little time was spent with anyone. operation day was pretty much the same, everyone so busy and rushing about,so my op was done to which i am eternally grateful for,but still staff were to busy to spend any time with you,I wasn't wanting much, just a hint of compassion or a 5minute chat,Most of the remaining time I was there was very lonely, the afternoon after my op I had to ask someone to help give me a wash as I couldn't move by myself, iam truly not faulting the staff because the do amazing work but the have so little staff that theyard run ragged.I will no in 2 weeks if my op has worked,I'm not even sure if I'm supposed to be seeing the consultant again.
