"There is much time, effort and insight"

This is some feedback that was recieved from a patient on Ruby Ward within The National High Secure Healthservice for Women at Rampton Hospital (Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust) regarding a Recovery focused Summer event which was held in the Directorate on Tuesday 14th July 2015 which was supported by some of the Rosewood volunteers and attended by our Chief Executive Ruth Hawkins.

"It really was a wonderful sight to see all patients and staff from the Women's Services all gathered together, enjoying the opening of the Recovery Path and the Summer Fete. For over a year the Therapeutic Involvement Workers (TIW's) have been working hard with each patient to make and design their own Recovery slab. Even those who need help, the TIW's made it possible for them. There was a phenominal amount of hard work and insight gone into every slab designed.

The TIW's ran a compeition to name the pathway, each patient got to enter and the winner was kept a secret until the summer fete. There were four stalls set up in the Diamond Resource Centre - a tombola stall, a tower block building game, play your cards right and push the puc game. There was lots of lovely prizes which had been donated by the Rosewood Centre and the staff from Images Salon. Everyone seemed to be having lots of fun and laughter could be heard all over, it was very nice.

Then it was time for the opening of the pathway and the secret was revealed! the pathway name was chosen as "The Jewel Carriage, Our Journey to Recovery". Two patient choices had been intertwined to make the final name. We were then invited to see an animation, the patient who wrote it stood and presented the fresh fruit and veg to Ruth Hawkins our Chief Executive. The fruit and veg had been grown in the Sapphire gardens where again the patients have a lot of involvement and this year we had a good crop. Both patients and staff are doing a super job with the Sapphire Gardens - it something to be proud of.

The animation "it was never meant to be this way" lasted approximately four minutes - a patient created a poem about what it is like to live in and experience life in high secure care. This was then read out by another patient whose voice was recorded and then a professional animator created the small film to go with it. It was very powerful and clearly showed the feelings and thoughts patients can experience. The animation has also been used at conferences to give staf more insight into how patients think and feel.

There is much time, effort and insight that goes into Recovery here at Rampton with all staff and patients and that is what is important and is clearly visible at Rampton.
