"not impressed. had surgery and consultant didnt..."

About: St James's University Hospital

i had surgery for prolapse on 25th june...i was in hospital 2 days as had bladder retention. consultant never botheted coming to see me after surgery to tell me how it went or give me post op care instructions/restrictions. i was sent home after 2 days then had to go back to gynae admissions next day as still had bladder retention. when nurse checked urine i had rsging uti that theyd not checked on ward 24. had to go home with a catheter for another week. asked to see consultant who did my surgery but was told to wait till my 6 wk check. had to go back to admissions the next week with a post op wound infection...again couldnt see my consultant n was told to wait for 6 week check. my 6 week check is with a nuse not the consultant. im 3 wks post op for surgery amd my bladder repair has just dropped n failed. i need to see my consultant but i guess theres no point as i havent seen them at before or after surgery!! im quite disgusted that someone can have major surgery n the person operating doesnt come to check on them after. where do i go now if my surgerys failed at 2/3wk post op?? why is it so hard to have continuation of care n be seen by the person respondible for ur operation?

Dear Anonymous,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us.

I am very sorry to read that you had such a distressing time whilst in our care.

Unfortunately due to the lack of patient identifiable information we would not be able to address your concerns immediately as we would have to discuss the matters you have raised with you in more detail therefore I would advise that you contact the Trust’s Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0113 2066261 or alternatively email patientexperience.leedsth@nhs.net who will be able to assist you with this matter.

With kind regards

Rosie
