"Fall in George Street, Altrincham"

About: Altrincham General Hospital

I got to the hospital at about 5.30pm and spoke to a very nice receptionist, who took my details and said to me to sit down until I'm called for. I said "but you close at 5.30pm" and was told don't worry you will be fine. My friend and her son were with me. I felt okay but was concerned if I had done anymore damage to my right ankle. The reason being that I had previously broken it badly in 2002 resulting in having an operation at Wythenshawe Hospital, having damaged the tibia and fibula. I had a plate and screws inserted in it at the time, but were removed in 2004. I still get a lot of swelling on it anyway. I seem to walk differently than I did. This isn't the first time that I have fallen, but felt it pulling tight when I fell. The reason I think I fell because a lot of repairs are being done round that area and the surface being very uneven. I was called for within 5 minutes. Saw another member of staff, who examined my ankle thoroughly pushing it forward and backwards, asking me if I felt any pain, but only slightly. Because of my history they suggested that I had an X Ray. Anyway it came back, showing I hadn't damaged it, but did I know I had got a bit of arthritis in it. I thought I had. The member of staff said perhaps a support would help me. I was very satisfied how I was treated. I've got every praise for the NHS.

Thank you for your comments posted on the NHS Choices / Patient Opinion website regarding your care at Altrincham Minor Injuries Unit. It was very kind of you to write and compliment the staff, as it is good to receive positive feedback which reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff.

It is clear from the description of your previous injury that you have had quite an experience and were justifiably concerned. It was reassuring to hear that on your attendance at the unit you found the staff to be friendly, thorough and supportive.

I can assure you that your comments have been passed on to the administration and nursing staff at the Minor Injuries Unit and they were very much appreciated.
