"Endoscopy Department Top Class"

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital

I visited the Endoscopy dept. on 13072015. The appointment was for a colonoscopy, I had already been to a pre appointment meeting and was given plenty of information on how to prepare for the examination I was about to have. I have to say that the staff were all amazing. They all took time to ensure that I knew the procedure and in what order things would happen. I was informed that I was in charge and that if I wanted anything to say, i.e. if I wanted to stop, more or less pain relief. I was also advised in a good natured way what to expect whilst the procedure was being carried out. During the procedure I was able to talk to the staff and was given full information about how the examination was going, and was able to see the examination on a screen. This was all very reassuring. Following the examination the recovery experience was great, as I was allowed to relax with a cup of coffee and a sandwich. I was then given most of the results in private by a nurse, who again was superb, showing their enthusiasm for the work of the whole team. In short a superb team and a 5 star experience. I must also mention the car park staff who are always helpful, and the volunteers in recovery who are really good people, thank you.

Response from Royal Bournemouth General Hospital

Dear Mr Davies Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I believe this kind of feedback is really helpful to other patients who may be anxious about attending for similar treatment; hearing such positive comments can be a real encouragement to them. It is good to hear that you were fully informed about the process throughout your treatment and were able to receive some of the results before leaving. Thank you also for noting the care and support you received from the Endoscopy team, car parking staff and the volunteer in the recovery area. I will pass on your comments to the teams you have mentioned as I know they will appreciate your kind words. Kind regards Sue Mellor Head of Patient Engagement
