"Occupational therapy"

About: Stockport NHS Foundation Trust

(as the patient),

My son was a late walker and got diagnosed as having hyper mobility when he was younger. The physiotherapist told me at the time that if he had any problems when he reached school age then to just have him referred back in to the service. When my son started at school in September 2014 he started to have problems with his writing etc... I referred him back to Rowan House Hyde in November 2014 and he didn't get seen until June 2015. He saw the occupational therapist who was extremely thorough and very good with my son. I was told that a report would be written and we would be seen again and would also do a referral to physio. It is now the mid-July and I have rang up Rowan House again to be told that the report is being done today. I am extremely unhappy that it has taken a whole school year for my son to get some help and with holidays in 2 weeks he will soon be in year 1. I feel that this has hindered his development and had he been seen earlier things could have been put in place at the beginning of his school year rather than the end. I understand that the Occupational Therapist is doing their best with the time they have and that the sheer amount of referrals that come through cannot be dealt with by one member of staff. This is obviously an issue that needs addressing! ! !
