"My son was just shoved into a cubicle and then..."

My son was taken to A&E in Chorley last night (11/7/15), via ambulance, after collapsing in Chorley town centre and banging his head on the pavement. Yes he had been drinking. He's just turned 18 and he never drinks. He went out around town for the first time ever and had a few too many. He was basically dumped into an A & E cubicle for 5 hours. Considering the fact that he hit his head on the pavement, not once did any nurse take his observations and not once did they do a set of neuro obs on him. And he was pretty drowsy and slurring his words. Not one nurse came into the cubicle to check his head wound and nobody asked him how he was feeling or spoke to us about how long we would have to wait. I don't mind waiting because I understand the pressures of working in the NHS. But there was a serious lack of communication by the nurses and the fact that they ignored him and didn't even check his obs once was unbelievable. He banged his head after falling in town and not one set of neuro obs or normal obs! Eventually after about 5 hours he was seen by a doctor and allowed home. His head wasn't too bad, it was more of a big bad graze but he still hit his head and I think he should have been monitored at least once! And nobody even gave my son a head injury information leaflet. I thought they were always given out. No obs, no xray, no information. I'm glad my son is feeling okay this morning but I feel that his care could have been much better. It's the first time he's had a drink and this happens. He doesn't come in to A & E every week after drinking. It was a one off but I feel saddened that there was a lack of communication and concern considering head he had hit his head. Please do regular obs on anybody that has hit their head. Just because they are conscious, doesn't mean there isn't a problem.
