"F/up to wasted visit to A&E in June. Review 28th..."

About: Russells Hall Hospital

Following my attention at City Rd eye clinic on the Friday 26th June I received a phone call from Sandwell hospital on the following Monday morning 29th June advising that an appointment had been made for me to see their Stroke consultant on Tuesday afternoon 30th June. I was seen within 15minutes of my appointment time and received a thorough examination and interview. Immediately after this I had an ECG exam and full blood test. During the following week I received another phone call from Sandwell giving me an appointment for an MRI scan on Saturday morning 4th July. I have now received appointments for an echocardiogram on the 17th July and to have a 24hour monitor fitted on the 24th July. I have also received in the post a full report from the consultant detailing our discussions. The attention we received at Sandwell in all departments was faultless. The downside is that I cannot drive until 4 weeks after the problem occurred. Sandwell is not convenient to us but I doubt that I would have received such prompt attention at Russells Hall. I shall relay all this to my own Doctor. I would appreciate some reply from RH.

Thank you for taking the time to comment again on your experience. We are pleased to hear that you were so impressed with the service you received from Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals. When patients attend A&E with an eye problem they are seen in our minor injuries area in order of arrival. In most cases, any treatment needed can be given by one of our Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENP) and patients can then go home. If a condition is more serious, patients are seen by ophthalmologist for a specialist opinion at Russells Hall Hospital between 8am and 4pm. Outside these hours we refer patients to the Birmingham Midland Eye Centre (BMEC) We welcome all feedback and would like to assure you that all comments are taken seriously and acted upon as part of our ongoing commitment to improving patient experience. If you wished to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on free phone 0800 073 0510 we would happily look into the issues you have raised.
