"awful midwife that made me feel uncomfortable!"

About: Bradford Royal Infirmary

Had my first child three months ago at the bri, the labour was fine and would like to say a big thank you to the midwives and student midwife that helped me deliver my son as they were brilliant and i generally could not fault them at all. The service after giving birth to my son however was dreadful, i had a nasty midwife tell me that i had the wrong car seat and deal with me and my partner with such a terrible attitude that if anything was wrong with any of us and we had the money to go private we definitely would. First all without even asking me what ethnicity i was they ticked the box saying that I was of African and my baby would need a vaccine then after crossing the tick they made out, they came and asked me about my ethnicity and realised my son would not need the vaccination, after this they said the car seat we had brought for our child was the wrong one and pointed out that our car seat was second hand basically trying to make us feel ashamed and then wrote inappropriate comments about my partner in our baby booklet. They made us feel small, insignificant and less superior to them. I am currently a university student and wanting to be within the service industry and worked within customer service in the past and personally know how to treat people and this is not the way. Midwives need to be reviewed regularly! At the end of the day, the NHS is providing a service to the public the least the staff can do is treat individuals with the respect and decency they deserve as a human being. I would of made a review earlier but due to such a busy schedule this is the only spare time ive had to write about the service i received, what are we paying our tax money for if not to be treated right,Extremely disappointed by this silly member of staff who spoilt what was meant to be a joyful occasion by treating me and my partner like we were morons!

I am so sorry about this experience, please accept my apologies and also for the time it has taken to respond to you. Firstly, thank you for acknowledging that the service you received during the birth of your son was good. These comments will be passed to the relevant team. I would urge you to contact the PALS department on 01274 364021 at Bradford Royal Infirmary or 01274 365853 at St. Luke’s Hospital. The text phone number for deaf people is 01274 382580 at Bradford Royal Infirmary. You can also email pals@bthft.nhs.uk. They will be able to put you in contact with the relevant Matron who would be happy to address your concerns. Poor behaviour is not acceptable and not how we expect our staff act. Thank you for taking the time to post your comments, it is a very busy time with a new baby.
