"Gallstone surgery"

I have been waiting for surgery since I was first diagnosed with gallstones in August 2014. The process of getting the surgery was lengthy and very intransparent, information was hard to come by and I sometimes waited for weeks for blood results or any information.

In the end, I got in when another patient cancelled, and so despite the long wait I had just one day to get everything organised.

However, the team in Ninewells was very friendly and organised, from the nurse who welcomed me personally to Ward 11 to the fact that I was in theatre two hours later, after having spoken to all doctors and having had all tests.

The doctors were great and professional and the surgery went well. The nursing team looked after me with great care, despite being busy. They made sure I was comfortable, checked on me and helped me any time I asked, I could not have wished for a better team.

We have, unfortunately, been experiencing increased demands on our services recently and I am sorry if your surgery was delayed as a result of this. I note also that we did not communicate with you as effectively as we should have and I will certainly feed this back to the service.

Our staff do work extremely hard and always strive to deliver the best care and treatment possible for their patients.
