"Colorectal Surgery Experience"

In early February 2016 I was sent by my local GP for an abdominal scan. The scan was administered at Cossham Hospital. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating and dealt with me in a professional and caring manner. The following day I was spoken to by a member of the Colorectal Staff at Southmead Hospital which led me to undergoing a Colonoscopy a week later. That procedure took place at Southmead where I once again was dealt with nursing staff who were caring and professional in the approach to my visit. This is where I also met with my surgeon. They too dealt with me in a very professional and sympathetic manner. Post this procedure I was eventually called for Colorectal Surgery. This led to an initial Post Operative Assessment by a number of staff over a three hour period. During this event I was again treated with care, sympathy and professionalism by all I spoke with. I found the Assessment process enlightening and extremely useful in making me aware of what the next stages of the procedure would entail. My questions were answered fully and frankly which went a long way to allaying my concerns. In mid May the surgery took place and I was placed on Ward 34A. My immediate care was undertaken by a member of staff whose attention throughout my stay I would class as exemplary. They led to my early recovery and release under the Enhanced Recovery Scheme. Their nursing expertise and professional application is to be commended. All the other staff on the ward, whether nursing or support staff were always helpful and kind. On release I was contacted daily to assess my progress which was very assuring. During the whole episode both at Cossham and Southmead Hospitals I have be dealt with by all your staff in a positive, professional and caring manner. The nursing care I received from the Ward to the Surgeon and his Team was for me exceptional and I would be glad if you would pass on my comments and grateful thanks to each of the Departments who were responsible for my care.
