"My mother in law is 83 years of ..."

About: Basildon University Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

My mother in law is 83 years of age with cancer and dementia she has been treated as an out patient and admitted on occassions, over the last six and a half years. Despite her lack of concentration and failing memory she has always been treated as a person, with staff using her name and speaking to her. She has seen 3 different consultants over this time and her treatment has always been excellent. The doctors take the time to explain what they are doing even though she just nods and says thank you. She has forgotten she has seen them 5 minutes later but for that short time you can tell she knows the doctors care. I have always attended with my mother in law and found the staff excellent.

I have also been treated myself for 3 years for cancer and can honestly say I could not have received better treatment if I had gone private.

What could be improved

If you look hard enough you can always find room for improvement the same as you can always find something to complain about. I have lived in this area for more than 25 years and its a credit to the hospital that many of its staff have worked there as long.

Anything else?

I think we are very lucky in this area to have such an excellent facility and instead of knocking it all the time we should work together to support the hospital and its hard working staff.

As anyone who has ever dealt with the public will know you can never please everyone but lets remember the amount of patients these staff treat a day and the trauma they deal with.
