"Unexpected visit to hospital !"

A&E staff helpful when I first got there, went and had chest X-RAY fairly quickly, after being admitted with query gall bladder. I then found we were not kept in the loop, found one of the nurses a little off hand, when I needed the toilet, I was then told to sit in a wheelchair as I was going upstairs without even being told by the Doctor what they had found or they possibly thought it was. I was taken to St Mawes Unit, where again I was seen fairly promptly, where they then explained why I was there, another Doctor then came in & said definatley have gallstones & would need operating on. I was then fairly quickly moved to the ward & settled in to bed. The staff were very friendly especially when I hadn't really taken everything in, and the Nurse in charge explained everything to my husband, but clearly they are over stretched but never ever let anyone on my ward wait very long if they pressed their buzzer. The surgeon came to visit and said there was a possibility I could be sent home, was left feeling quite deflated, but less than an hour later another surgeon had come to see me to say I was being operated on later that afternoon, but within an hour the anaesthetist had been to see me & put me totally at ease, talking me through things. By 4pm I was down the theatre awaiting my anaesthetic, again as they knew I was anxious they made me feel very relaxed and I trusted them totally. The next thing I remember was being woken up in recovery, I was then taken back to the ward and slept for a while, then when the nurse was doing my obs, realised my BP & Sats had dropped, so every hour I had my BP taken and was put on oxygen for the rest of the night. The only thing I would say that they seem to come back and forth too many times, eg:doing meds, obs, drips, why not do it all in one when seeing that patient ? Would save time in the long run.The next day I was discharged but my summary was not done and as yet my surgery has not had one, having called the ward I have been told it could be another week, which I feel is not acceptable. So in short I can honestly say that the treatment I received was fabulous but not having a discharge summary when you leave lets it down. The nurses & staff that I seen over the few days I was there were overworked & short staffed but still gave excellent treatment to me, I have nothing but admiration & praise for them.
