"No compassion"

About: University Hospital (Coventry)

Travelled 4 hours to visit having asked the day before if I could visit outside normal visiting hours,we were told that it would be fine. On arrival to ward the nurse said I could not visit and was asked to leave but allowed me to stay for a further 15 mins. My partner is very unwell and we were both very upset by this. I left and travelled 4 hours home. Where has the caring profession gone?

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience at University Hospital, Coventry. I am sorry to hear about your experience. We do have set visiting hours which are between 6.30pm and 8pm Monday to Friday and between 2pm and 4pm and 6.30pm and 8pm which applies to all our patients. However it is at the ward manager's discretion that more visiting time can be offered, you clearly had this conversation and the message wasn't passed on, and for this we apologise, especially considering how far you travelled. We will work harder to improve our communication in the future.
