"Some staff at the unit are really ..."

About: Peterborough Maternity Unit

(as the patient),

What I liked

Some staff at the unit are really kind and devoted to their jobs and I'm very appreciative of this. Well done.

What could be improved

I am absolutely shocked by the way I was treated during and after labour. There aren't enough staff on the unit, especially at night. Both myself and other ladies who were patients there during my stay at times were left for hours without adequete care (not getting help to feed babies after a cesearan, drips not being changed, birth partners not being allowed in the hospital to give support, being left alone for hours in a distressed state, some staff were rude and gave out wrong medical information, plus many other areas of concern). Without exception both myself and ALL the ladies I have bumped into since my stay who had ceseareans at the same time have said they had infections as a result, that's a 100% infection rate amongst the five of us. This is disgraceful, and really worrying. I thought it was just me who had a bad experience there, but I've been proved wrong when chatting to these ladies.

Improvements? Well there needs to be some serious improvements - More staff are needed NOW, more money should be put into this part of the NHS. Cleaning needs to be improved. And staff that are there should be better trained and more compassionate

Anything else?

I would definitely NOT recommend this hospital to anyone, I was left traumatised by my ordeal, if you can afford it go private is my advice.

The Trust takes the experiences of patients and visitors to our hospitals very seriously and we aim to provide a safe, caring and effective service. However, we do recognise there are occasions when an experience may not have met the expectations of our patients or visitors and we are keen to understand how we cam make things better.

To help us continually improve our services for current and future patients and visitors we need feedback and are happy to look into any matter where a patient or visitor is disappointed with the service they received.

This feedback has been forwarded to the relevant department to look into in further detail. Please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01733 875847 or email pals@pbh-tr.nhs.uk who will provide help and advice regarding any issue.

Thank you for visiting NHS Choices.
