"Dreadful wating times for operation"

I had to wait for about 15 months before I got my long awaited hernia operation. I have had people being rude to me and had no response to my letter of complaint. I was made to wait so long for my operation that my hernia was pretty large by the time I actually had the procedure. It is well documented that the larger a hernia, then the more likely serous fluid would build up in the cavity left by the hernia, after the repair. This has happened to me. I have had the serous fluid drained off one, but it is slowly filling the cavity once again, and so once again I will look like the freak I have looked like since summer 2014. I am tired and embarrassed. My quality of life has been affected, even being moaned at by work colleagues because I was slow. This was because the hernia was painful. I ended up in hospital last summer, when abroad on a family holiday, I could not bend to do shoe laces for over 6 months. I will probably now need a full tummy tuck to ensure that the cavity/dead space is rid of, so that the serous fluid stops building up.. Had my op been done when the hernia was smaller the hospital would have not used so many resources and money, and I would not be forced to endure this rubbish quality of life for at least a year. Well done Kings College - I really do not believe that the NICE guidelines are adhered to what so ever within the general surgery department at the PRU. When audits are carried out, I would be extremely interested as to how the results are extrapolated! I have lost complete faith in my local hospital, but unfortunately due to financial constraints, I am forced to use it, as it as the nearest hospital available.
