What I liked
I gave birth to my daughter using the birthing pool and had the natural birth that I wanted. Despite arriving at the hospital in the early hours of the morning, on what was apparently a very popular night to give birth, staff were fantastic and very respectful of my wishes. They even ran a lovely warm bath filled with lavender oil which helped me to relax, as I wasn't dilated enough to get in the pool when we first arrived. Both my husband and I couldn't fault them at all.
What could be improved
The only thing that could be imporved was that the ward was stifling hot, I know it was the middle of summer and that newborn babies need to be kept warm but a couple of fans or some air conditioning wouldn't have gone amiss!
Anything else?
Far too often you only hear about people's bad experiences in hospital, but my experience of West Suffolk Hospital was fantastic and I would highly recommend the maternity ward to any pregnant women thinking about where to have their baby.
