"Communication is appalling"

About: Freeman Hospital

My father-in-law has terminal cancer so it’s fair to say that time is not on his side. On two consecutive days the promised CT scans have not happened. On both occasions no one advised him and he was kept in the dark. In simple terms, this is appalling and is not good enough. This is basic stuff. Not keeping patients informed is bad clinical practice. It’s not the first time our family has suffered at the hands of the clinicians at this hospital being unable to get the basics right. Getting the simple things wrong does not fill us with confidence for the rest of his care. I’ll make it clear – get it sorted, talk to patients and keep them informed!

Thank you for taking the time to post your review on NHS Choices. We are very sorry to hear that you have concerns about your father-in-law’s care in the Freeman Hospital. As your comment is posted anonymously, we have not been able to investigate your concerns about the time taken to get the CT scan or the information given to the patient. However, we would be very keen to understand where the problems have occurred and how we could improve. As such, we would be most grateful if you could contact a member of our Patient Relations Team on telephone 0191 2231382 or e-mail patient.relations@nuth.nhs.uk so that we can investigate the concerns that you have.
