"I would like a ramp"

About: North Ayrshire Council - Irvine, Garnock Valley and Community Alarm

(as a service user),

I would like a ramp at my house, I use a walker and can’t get out the front door or the back door. I broke my hip many years ago and had an operation so mobility is a problem.

The OT came out 3 months ago, I told them about it. They said that I can’t have a ramp because I don’t have a wheelchair. I can get out when I have help but I can’t do it by myself.

Dear Dot14,

Thanks for leaving your feed back on Care Opinion.

Part of the criteria for installing a ramp is that the individual is eligible for a wheelchair from the NHS and your GP may be able to help you with this.

North Ayrshire Council Occupational Therapy service can however assess whether hand rails or bannisters may be installed to make your access safer or we could look to widening your steps. If we can be of further assistance to you, please contact your local office -
