I arrived in a & e lat Tuesday morning via ambulance due to severe chest pain. I was seen quite quickly at the reception/triage areas but once I was taken through to the majors area, the wait was horrendous, nothing to eat or drink, I can understand, as I hadn't seen a Dr. It was 3 hours later when I was seen by a Dr. Not much in between, the usual xray, blood tests etc, I had eaten nothing all day until I was taken to ward A7 I wasn't kept informed of my treatment or anything, one Dr said that I wouldn't have to stay in, so I got a friend to come to meet me there, she had to go to work so left , shortly afterwards a nurse came to me and announced that I was being admitted to the ward, if I'd have known, I would have asked my friend to bring me my overnight things in. On arrival on the ward, I was greeted by very friendly staff, and as I was extremely tearful, they promised to look after me, which they did fantastically. I was kept in overnight as I was waiting for the results of a repeat blood test. The consultant came on the ward, told me what they thought I was suffering from and promptly left, I continued to be very tearful all night, didn't sleep a wink. I was discharged later that day, however today I received a letter from the hospital for an appointment to investigate further what had initially been dismissed, this wasn't explained to me, so the came out of the blue. I had to contact the department in question to ask for more information on the procedure. I intend to take an overnight bag just in case I end up staying in overnight again. All in all I certainly haven't got any issues with ward A7 but A&E have a lot to answer for lack of communication with me and keeping me in the dark about my treatment etc. Thank you to all the staff on A7.
