"Disappointed with nursing care in day surgery"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I went in for minor operation through the Bostonian, Pilgrim Hospital.

I was disappointed with the nurses in the ward. The nurse who was taking all the info about me, was fiddling with a whole load of paperwork, asking me questions, but was not actually ticking the paper, so that she had to ask me the questions again. She wanted me to be ready for the operation at 2 pm although I told her, the consultant told me it was 4pm. She was adamant that it was 2pm and that I was first on the list (of 3) patients. I was actually taken to the operating theater at 4:30 pm.

Operating staff were very professional, however, the paperwork they were reading had a injection on my elbow, which was not supposed to be done.

Back in my room, I pressed the call button, but no nurse came after 10 minutes, although the repeated call sound was loud enough to hear. Eventually, the orderly who took me to the OR came who said he was going to tell the nurse.

Still no one came, so I dressed up and walked out of the room and saw the nurse. I said I was going home.

There were only 3 patients due for operation, so it was disappointing. Very disorganised with paperwork, and I think that they have heard the call button so often in the past, that the nurses just switch off whe they hear it.
