"Delays in eye clinic appointment"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I have a congenital condition and have an eye check-up every 6 months.

On last week I attended Wishaw General Eye Clinic to be told that the consultant was sick and my appointment would have to be rescheduled. Disappointing as I had taken time off work.

A few days later I got a letter informing me that my next appointment would be on 28 December. Why do I have to wait so long? My 6 monthly check-up has turned into an annual check-up.

Also, 28 December is a Bank Holiday. A strange day for an eye clinic!

Dear eyecheckupman,

This clinic was cancelled at short notice due to staff illness and we were unable to contact all patients due to attend. I’m sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.

I’m concerned to read that you have been rescheduled for what will be an annual review. I’d need you to contact me with your details so that I can review your case and the date of your rescheduled appointment. You are quite right about the date though, there will not be a routine clinic on 28 Dec 15. We will be contacting any patients who have been appointments for this date.

Please contact the Patient Affairs Team at Hairmyres Hospital on Tel No: 01355 585325

I look forward to hearing from you.
