I arrived at A & E at midnight having 'shot' dishwasher liquid into my eye when a tablet 'exploded'. I had washed it out at home but knew it needed more attention. I was told by reception that there would be a wait to even see a triage nurse and the wait turned out to be 40 minutes. I knew my problem was not life threatening but I did think that quick attention to this problem was required. This wait is my only criticism of my visit to A & E last Saturday. When I eventually saw the triage nurse they were amazing. They treated me immediately and permitted me to jump the queue and immediately washed my eye out with a litre bag of saline. The doctor on duty was also very attentive and helpful, testing it for the Ph and then washing out the eye again themself with a further bag of saline then a re-test and a further bag of saline. Fantastic attention from both these very busy people who couldn't have been more kind and helpful - a doctor themself doing the treatment because no one else was available to do it. I was also very impressed by being able to see a specialist at the Royal Surrey the next day who thinks the eye will recover in time. I don't know what other cases there were that evening though I do know the department was very busy. I just wonder if treatment could be priortised by Reception, or maybe it is?
