"Lack of communication about cancelled surgery"

About: Broomfield Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

Today I left home at 0620 to get to Broomfield by 0730 all fine booked in no problems, was called to go and get ready for my operation around 0800 every thing fine around 1030 family left to go home my son had taken the day off to bring me.

Sat around until around 1145 when I was told that my operation was cancelled - in fact it was cancelled yesterday as one of your x-ray machines had broken down.

I was told that someone should have called me yesterday to tell that it was cancelled. No one did. As it was I and my family have had a wasted day, my son has had to use one of his holiday days to bring me to Broomfield and will have to do the same in July when my operation has been put back till, also 140 miles in wasted petrol.

I am very sorry that we did not tell you sooner that the operation had been cancelled and understand the frustration this caused to yourself and your family. I will forward the comment to the Theatre Manager.
