"Fantastic care, terrible facilities for babies"

About: King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill)

My husband was recently cared for by a fantastic team. They made a quick diagnosis of a rare condition and he is now doing well. However, during this time my husband with hospitalised for 8 days. We have a then 4 month old baby. The facilities are dreadful. The one baby changing toilet was so small you can't fit a buggy inside so you have to leave it outside the toilet. There was absolutely no where suitable to breastfeed my baby. When I asked at the help desk if there was anywhere suitable to go the response was simply 'no'. This made an already stressful time even more stressful and complicated. Spending the short visiting hours that I could be there before baby needed to be home for bed searching for somewhere to change and feed her. They really need to improve facilities for parents. I am saddened but not surprised to hear that they are cutting funding for breastfeeding cafes in that area. It is clearly not one of their priorities. Such a shame when everything else was so excellent.

Response from King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill)

Please accept my apologies for not responding to your feedback in a timely way.

I am very glad to hear that the clinical care that your husband receieved was of a high standard.

I am however very sorry that your experience of visiting him was made more difficult by the lack of facilities for families with babies.

It would be helpful to know where your husband was treated at King's so that I can direct your comments to the most appropriate person.

Once again, please accept our apologies.
