"Friendly staff"

About: Watford General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Friendly staff

What could be improved

Produce a booklet for each bed showing patient information - time table of doctors rounds, food, visiting rules etc. Certainly produce a website with this information (booklets go out of date) and get the patient to read before being admitted.

Food was pretty bad. Get a relative to bring it in for you or order it in. Rumour is that between 50% and 75% of all food is thrown away. Why not spend the same amount on a bit less food but of better quality? Plus, people will recover much better if they eat healthier. Perhaps provide some fruit in the afternoon rather than tea and biscuit?

Waiting for x ray, waiting for stitch removal, waiting for dressing. Could have left and given up the bed a few hours earlier if I was not waiting for these things.

Phone system is a nightmare. I have given up going back to my post op 6 monthly check up because either no one picks up the phone or I leave a message and no one rings me back.

Anything else?

Bring ear plugs! Sleeping in a ward is difficult.

The hospital is cleaned but because it is very dated there are too many nooks and crannys for dust and dirt to get into.

The buildings look terrible from the outside. Definitely not a building fit for the 21st century.
