"My stay at Crosshouse"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / General Medicine

(as the patient),

After being admitted to hospital from my GP, I feel care in 3E Crosshouse hospital has been a bit below expectations. I have an on-going medical condition which is very painful and have suffered more from this as the staff did not ask me anything about it. I feel if they would just ask you if you had any other medical conditions they should know about, it would help me (the patient) and the staff would understand we can’t just jump when they say.

I have very painful severe arthritis which affects all my joints and suffer a great deal of pain which I can control if I get my pill that are currently prescribed to me but after several days in to my stay I still did not have all my prescribed drugs which was not helping my on-going condition having to constantly clear with staff about my prescribed drugs.

Then in the morning I was wakened from my sleep and told you are getting moved soon. With my condition soon is very painful as it takes my joint a bit to sort themselves. I was transferred from 3E to 4D at 2AM, I then seen a doctor at dinner time due to wrong information being passed on. But I might add that the staff nurse Jennifer and nursing assistant Kevin have kept me in better understanding and have been seen and am more informed about what they are going to do.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Closer946,

Oh dear, that does sounds painful and a condition that is difficult to get you moving. I am very sorry your care has been below your expectations and that it took so long to get your medication.

It is good to hear that you had Jennifer and Kevin helping you to understand what was happening though.

I will pass this to the managers for their consideration/. They will pass your post to Jennifer and Kevin so that they know you appreciated the help they gave you and reflect on the other elements of your care. If you would like to meet with a senior manager to discuss your experience, I can set that up for you, just let me know your name, date of birth or CHI number, your address and a contact number. If you do want to contact me, you can email me on eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk or phone me on 01563 826222.

I hope you are well on the road to recovery now,

Best wishes,

Eunice
