"Compassion"

About: Stratheden Hospital / Adult mental health

(as a carer),

My daughter was admitted late one night to Lomond Ward, away from home to an unfamiliar place. I google the hospital and was horrified by what I read. In retrospect I don't know what was true and what was not. Our experience was excellent. The staff from the start were to a fault kind and friendly. Everything was done to make my relative's stay and care the best it could be from consultant to cleaner. I felt confident that all the patients were well looked after. I trusted the staff. My daughter stayed 3 months. She had experience of treatment in a smarter newer establishment. It does not matter how fresh the paint work is if the care is inadequate. I have considered moving home so that any future care would be at Lomond Ward.

Glenn the ward manager's door was often open. Patients aired their grievances. He listened. His example is in part the reason for the culture of kindness on Lomond Ward. Bravo. A pity more could not follow his apparently easy style.

I would also like to thank the WRVS for keeping the shop open, despite often being the sole customer on occasion.

We all thought that the grounds were beautiful.

I one has a fragile relative what better place to have them looked after then Lomond Ward. Thank you

Dear Rolling Pin

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience relating to your daughter's hospital admission, this must have been a very frightening time for you all.

It is sad that your intital research did not inspire confidence; however I was pleased to hear (as are the team) that your experience was so positive. Feeling that your daughter was safe and having trust is so important and it sounds like Glenn and the team got it just right.

Your feedback has been warmly welcomed by the staff and I have been asked to extend their thanks to you for taking the time to comment. I will also be pleased to pass on your thanks to the RVS, they do a fantastic job and provide an excellent service. I am sure they too will be pleased to receive your feedback.

I do hope your daughter is making progress, many thanks for posting.

Regards

Louise Ewing
