"Smoking"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

(as a service user),

Right outside entrance 9 underneath the sign saying 'no smoking', a family of 5 were smoking away. Including an elderly fellow who looked to be on chemotherapy...The trust management need to grasp the nettle here and enforce their claim that the place is a smoke free zone. Don't claim it unless you can show it's the case. There are many places right next to the hospital where people smoke. Stop them! ! !

Thank you for raising your concerns, regarding the smoking of visitors, patients and some staff smoking outside various doors. You are quite right, we are a no smoking hospital but, unfortunately, at times it is difficult to police. We do challenge people and remind them we are a no smoking hospital and ask patients/visitors to put the cigarette out whilst, at the same time, offering support to the individual on how to stop smoking.

Staff are also aware we are a no smoking Hospital if staff are observed/court smoking in the hospital grounds then disciplinary action would occur. The Trust takes this matter very seriously and we have Stop Smoking Service based within the hospital.
