I went to A&E for a foreign body in my foot after treading on something in my garden. In my three hour visit I was assessed, x-rayed twice and had a full examination from the doctor, followed by a probe with forceps and with scalpel by the registrar (with local anaesthetic). The object couldn't be found. I was given an appointment with a specialist for the following week, antibiotics, a tetanus injection and the offer of crutches. After seeing the specialist, I was told that an operation would be necessary, and I received a phone call the following day to confirm a day clinic appointment. The operation, which took over an hour, was performed by two surgeons, who removed the object successfully, and I am now recovering. At all times I was treated with courtesy and was kept fully informed about what was happening. I felt that I received excellent treatment throughout, and all staff did their best for me. I don't think my treatment could have been bettered. This hospital is frequently the subject of criticism - my experience was wholly positive
"Excellent, professional service"
