"Newborn Hearing Sreening Scheme ..."

About: Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital (Welwyn Garden City)

(as the patient),

What could be improved

Newborn Hearing Sreening Scheme is failing to meet the required standards.

Anything else?

My newborn son failed two hearing tests the day after birth and we were told he would have to be referred to audiology and would be seen in 2 weeks. 2 weeks passed and still no appointment so I called and was told that we had been given incorrect information and it would be more like 3 months. 3 months passed and I was told there was a staff shortage and it would be another 6 months. 6 months passed and I was told that there was a delay and a specialist had been brought in from another hospital to help with the back log and would get an appointment shortly. We are now 11 months after my son's birthdate and he still hasn't been seen.

It sounds very much like things have not gone right for you and your son, for which we are sorry. But there is something clearly wrong here as our newborn audiology waits are not that long. So your case needs to be looked in to as a matter of urgency - would you mind providing us with your son's details so that we can sort the matter out? Just e-mail us on generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net.
