Saw the consultant in clinic in the early morning, fitted with pacemaker in the afternoon of the same day. Received excellent care from all staff at every level, cleanliness was evident and well maintained, and every effort was made to preserve dignity and privacy of myself and other patients. There was no difficulty at all in securing the attention of staff if there was a need, care was provided but was not obtrusive. My only problem was the (dimmed) lights being too bright interfering with my sleep for the one night I was there, barely slept. Meals were fine, hot and well made in my opinion albeit choice was necessarily limited. Drinks were offered/provided at regular intervals. I would not hesitate to recommend this unit to anyone else in need of such treatment. Only real criticism- before I was discharged a male patient was admitted while a female patient beside myself was in the bay concerned and presumably remaining there!

Thank you for your posting in respect of the Coronary Care Unit here at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary. It is very kind of you to take the time to let us know of your experience and very much appreciated. Your positive comments will be shared with the Divisional Managers for Medicine, Estates and Facilities, and Head of Nursing who will share your posting with staff on the unit.

With regards to the male patient who was placed in the bay beside you and another female patient, I am advised that the Unit strive to adhere to the same sex accommodation standards; the Unit housing separate male and female bays and bathroom facilities. However, there may be occasions when this is breached due to clinical need when a patient is poorly and is requiring clinical care. The Trust conducts monthly surveys with our patients and these are carried out as well as regular observation of wards and departments by our Quality and Safety Matrons. This ensures that the highest standards are maintained across our hospitals. I would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention.
