"Grateful for care and attention given to my father"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / General Medicine

(as a relative),

My father was admitted to University Hospital Crosshouse after becoming ill in the care home where he was a resident.

The staff nurse on duty that day called me to say she was concerned about him. My husband and I went to see him as soon as we could get there as we live an hour away.

Over the next 10 days we spent a lot of time sitting with dad and got to speak to a number of the staff nurses who were responsible for his care. We both have to praise these nurses highly, they could not have shown him any more care in his last days. Any time I phoned they were extremely helpful and we were able to come and go as we pleased with no restriction.

The final call came in the middle of the night to say dad had gone and we went back down to say goodbye. Again the way the staff nurse handled this was so genuinely caring, especially after more than 12 hours on shift, it made me glad that dad spent his last days with these people.

Dear mattmike,

I am so glad your father, you and your family got such good care at such a crucial time in your father’s life. We only get one chance at getting this special care right and I it is great to hear that this was your experience.

I do not know which ward your father was in, but I will pass this to the Senior Managers to cascade to the staff and let them know about your post on Patient Opinion.

Thank you for taking the time out to tell us about this, especially at such an emotive time as bereavement.

I hope you and your family are all well,

Take care,
