"Wonderful experience at Andover Birth Centre"

About: Andover War Memorial Hospital

If you are looking to have your baby in a friendly, supportive, safe, home from home environment go to the Andover birth centre. I have nothing but praise for the caring team at the Andover birth centre and would highly recommend that any expectant mother chooses to deliver her baby there; I have been looked after so well during my entire pregnancy and the birth - a complete contrast to my first baby's birth in a hospital. (The birth centre was shut in 2010, otherwise I would have gone there for that too). In pregnancy: The staff were always available and able to answer my questions, no matter how trivial, without making me feel 'silly'. Where there were two sides to an 'argument' each side was explained, pro's and con's, so any decisions I made were informed ones. On two occasions I was seen the same day after having some real concerns, the ability to be seen so swiftly and to have fears allayed meant that I was never left worrying overnight about the little niggles we are susceptible to in our 'hormonal' pregnant state! It is also worth mentioning that midwives from the centre also run fantastic courses, such as aqua bumps and yoga which are excellent not only for staying healthy, but for gaining even more invaluable information on a weekly basis and for meeting other mums. The midwives from these courses also popped in to say hello to me after my baby's birth as they heard I was in - testament again to the warm, friendly and caring atmosphere here. for birth: I had 2 dedicated midwives me the whole time - the 'main' midwife did not even leave my side until hours after the delivery of my baby and made sure I was comfortable post delivery - ( a very different experience to my first baby's birth where my husband and mother had to go looking for the midwife on several occasions whilst I was in active labour)! Throughout labour the midwives continued communicating with me, constantly offering reassurance and explaining exactly what was going on and how I would need to adapt my technique for the next stages. I cannot put into words how confident their support made me feel and I am sure I would not had such a trouble free delivery without them. I had the same birth partners for both babies and they too were also both amazed and thankful for the quality of care we all received at the birth centre. Thank you so much to all.

Thank you for your feedback on our maternity service. It is always lovely to read heartfelt comments, like yours, on the care and treatment women have received. I will share these kind words with the team, who I am sure, will greatly appreciate them. Mary Edwards, Chief Executive Mary.edwards@hhft.nhs.uk
