"Neurology receptionists extemely rude."

About: Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital (Welwyn Garden City)

I attended the Neurology department for a check I arrived by 8.15 for my 9am appointment as traffic can be unpredictable. I went up to the receptionist and told me I was too early and to take a seat as they were are not ready yet in a very abrupt manner. I didn't mind the wait but I had noticed the way both of the receptionists had spoken to people in a rude way most of which were pensioners. It is unacceptable that they are allowed to talk to people in such a way. If they are not capable of being friendly, polite and courteous to people then perhaps they are in the wrong job!! I do give praise however, to the nurses and doctors they were very friendly and helpful.

Our receptionists are just as much part of our outpatients team as are our doctors and nurses. Even more so in some ways given that often they are the first people patients see - and we all know that coming to hospital can be a worrying time for many people. We will feed your comments back to the outpatients team at the QEII as this sort of behaviour is just not acceptable - thanks for alerting us to the problem. In the meantime, we were glad to see that you felt well looked after by the doctors and nurses on duty when you visited the New QEII Hospital.
