I was diagnosed with a suspected molar pregnancy (a very rare condition that in some cases can lead to cancer). However, I received no discussion or counseling at all on the condition apart from a leaflet given to me just before my surgery to remove the tissue. I turned up as asked at 8am at Abbotsbury ward only to be told there was no bed. I was transferred to surgical admissions and was admitted into a cubby with only a chair at 10am. At 11.15am, a member of the surgeons team visited me and went through basic paperwork. I was told I would be visited by the anaesthetist but no one came. I was wheeled off by a lovely porter who was the only member of staff to make me feel at ease as I was very nervous. Following the procedure, after an extended stay in recovery (again due to no bed available), I was transferred to the day surgery ward where I remained on the trolley until discharge; I didn't have a comfy bed the whole day!! In recovery I had requested codeine rather than brufen due to intolerance to the latter and was assured this would be sorted for me. However, upon discharge their was no prescription waiting. I also asked for a sick note but again, no one had filled it in and I was told I may have to wait a further couple of hours for it. Needless to say, I left empty handed - no note, no meds. Having had a look on google, it seems my follow up is quite complicated with blood tests and possible chemo and yet no one at the hospital has discussed this with me. I left frustrated and confused. In contrast, during a similar op at Yeovil Hospital, the staff were attentive, reassuring and comforting. The consultant met with me personally. On a good note, the procedure went well and experienced little pain all day due to the staff doing a good job medically. Oh and one member of staff in recovery was fab!
"Poor organization and communication"
