"Smooth as silk at A&E, Grantham"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I hurt my finger at work, but thought it was just bruised, so took no action. Two weeks later, it had virtually healed when it took a gentle knock. It hurt out of all proportion to the severity of the blow it had taken, and started swelling up. So, I was advised by my local (Melton Mowbray) walk-in centre to visit an A&E department to have it checked out.

Apart from the rather high parking charge, everything about Grantham deserves praise. I was with a Doctor within an hour, another ten minutes and my finger was X-rayed, a further ten minutes and the Doctor was telling me it appeared to be broken. Strapping was applied, and an appointment made for a couple of days later to see a consultant. 1-2-3: everything was so efficient, it ran as smooth as silk. Every member of staff couldn't have been more helpful, especially when we got lost in the hospital itself.

No-one wants to go to hospital, but if you have to go, I would 100% recommend Grantham. Thanks to all there for sorting me out so well, and letting me get on with the business of earning money. (I'm married, you see)

Response from United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust

Dear Jimmy

I am so sorry about the parking charges and it is such a shame that has let us down. It is always a pleasure to hear we are doing things right. We aim to treat all our patients as we wish to be treated ourselves.

Thank you for taking your time to let us know of your experience, I will be sure to make all the staff involved in your care are aware of your kind comments.
