"Assessment"

About: West Mendip Community Hospital

I visited for an orthopedic assessment, which was on time, the room I was in smelt dirty (urine) it was a warm day but the window was open, but we opened the door as well to get rid of the smell. The clinician introduced themself and immediately accused me of being "angry" which I was not! They wouldn't really listen, went to check the computer as I explained the X-Ray was online, came back & said it was playing up, again mentioned I appeared angry which I wasn't and found quite distressing. Eventually I was told that they were here to help and would forward a request for surgery at my chosen hospital which I would hear from in 3-4 weeks. This was not the attitude I expected from a professional. Having worked in a local hospital myself!

A lot of Orthopaedic Asssessment (OASIS) clinics are held each month, with five clinicians doing them. Four of whom are physiotherapists, and one is a podiatrist. One of the physiotherapists works for Mugrove Park Hospital in Taunton. We have never known our rooms to smell of urine, and on ocassion, when necessary, the rooms are cleaned/sprayed before the next patient is brought in. The OASIS clinicians have all had various problems accessing Xray images recently, and staff have been in regular contact with the Trust IT department to get a quick resolution to this problem, which has now been addressed . May I take this opportunity to offer apologies for your experience, on behalf of the OASIS tam, and suggest that if you would like to discuss this matter in greater detail that you call the Patient Advice and Liaison Team on 01278 432022, or email us on pals@sompar.nhs.uk. We will be happy to help.
