"Poor Care"

I broke my ankle (Sunday night) and was not offered any assistance of getting round the hospital when being called for my x-ray/consultation. The nurses forced me to have a blood test as they said the cast puts me at risk of clotting and should be put on blood thinning tablets - I am only 22 years old. The following day I had an appointment at the deep vein thrombosis clinic, who informed me that I had to inject myself daily with blood thinners - I was extremely unhappy about this, but I said I would take a few home to try. By Wednesday I still hadn't received a referral for the fracture clinic so I rang them. They said the next appointment I could have would be the following Tuesday (by that point it would have been 9 days since I broke my ankle) so I rang Southmead hospital who said they could fit me in the next day!! Whilst at Southmead (excellent service), the consultant said there was absolutely no need for me to take the blood thinners, or to have had a blood test. I spoke to another nurse at Southmead to get a secondary opinion and they too was in shock that I had been told to inject myself with blood thinners.
