On Thursday 28th May I woke up to a badly bloodshot eye which I thought was due to the fact I am on Blood thinners for AF, so thought it wld go away. On the Fri I experienced bad flashing zig zag lines and slight loss of sight for about 15mins, went to docs who said to go straight to WXH but ring 2 c if they had an opthalmologist on. which I did, and was told by switchboard oh yes they r here till 8.30pm. I arrive at A & E at 5.30 ish took a number and waited nearly 2 hours to be triaged. Then when I finally saw them was told ohh no they have left for the day, either go to Moorfields which was not an option as cld not drive, or go back to WXH on Sat morning and they can bleep opthalmologist at 10 after ward round, which I did. Got to hosp at 9.45am went through same proceedure waited and waited, then a head nurse came out after I had knocked on door to find out what was happening, was triaged for the 4th time, and then told oh no spoke to Opthalmologist is off site wont be in till 2pm. I then had to go as was going to family baby shower in kent. but was told the eye clinic was open on Monday from 9 til 4.30pm which I am sorry I cld not bring myself to go through it all again plus it cost a lot of money for anyone to take me to park. What I wld like to know is if the eye doc is there till 8.30pm and someone goes into A & E with an eye complaint why cant it be dealt with at the desk instead of waiting hours to be seen. I have decided to go to Moorfields today Monday 1st June by train as my experience with WXH I hope never to repeat. It was a shambles from start to finish. I understand how busy you can get as I work for the NHS over a long period but a bit of common sense needs to be put into practice.
