"A and E"

Not a bad experience of A and E early on a Sunday and the actual consultation about my foot was friendly, helpful and quick. As always with hospital visits it could be tweaked to be that bit better: Someone quickly picking up used gown and rubbish left in waiting area. Messages clearer. Big sign says A and E is only for emergencies but there is a minor injuries area and a guy feeling rough with a sore throat was not asked to use another service. Staff could show just slightly better empathy and listening skills. A family really wanted someone on a bed. There was a reason why she was going to be left on the floor writhing around, but the family needed to know the staff member understood why they wanted her in a bed. The mother nearly crying. Similarly, would be good to have understanding that when you arrive at A and E your main concern / feeling is 'How long will I be here? What kind of care will I get?'' The reception staff are tired and blasé and can't say 'We'll look after you as well and quickly as we can - it will may be about X mins before you are seen'. Or could they? Hard to rank the experience as it's so varied, even for a simple swollen foot. Must be so hard to lift all staff to the level of the besthe but that would be transformative.
