"overnighter, A&E and surgical ward"

The paramedic was fantastic, despite a two hour wait for a full rig, I was under blue lights in a car and felt extremely safely delivered into A&E. The A&E staff nurse was really helpful, friendly and kind but there was a long delay and I was left alone, despite being extremely sick on the pain relief provided. The cigarette butts on the floor didn't help my nausea and I felt that my IV pain relief would have been better administer with a drip stand, rather than hooked over a wall unit. When I was assessed by the doctor, they were wonderful, hands-on and reassuring, outlining a thorough plan for each potential outcome and I was transferred to the surgical ward for overnight assessment. The nurse on the surgical ward, who helped me overnight was great. They were kind, supportive and came to my assistance promptly, without being overbearing, (I was independent but still feeling extremely unwell). The nurse quietly assessed me, explained my environment and gave me a call bell, without disturbing other patients, I was given the medicine I needed very quickly and I was able to rest. My care had been impeccable. I was a little disappointed in the morning, when all patients were woken by a nurse and care assistant changing the beds, who were loudly discussing their potential holidays. When my bed was changed I was not spoken to once, by either of them. It does not require two members of staff to change a bed and they were more involved in discussing their potential employment elsewhere than with their immediate task.. I was also aware of other patient's care and concerns being discussed, which felt like a breach of confidentiality. The ward round was un-cordinated, clashing with the medicine round and as a result I was not offered pain relief prior to physical assessment. Sadly, I also felt severely patronised by consultant opinion but was warmly reassured by the registrar following further investigations, during a quieter moment on the ward and offered a plan to go home, which included direct return should I have any further concerns. Despite being admitted and clear dietry requirements being noted, I was not offered any suitable food before I was discharged home. I also had to ask for a fresh jug of water in the morning. There were clear inconsistencies with regards to IV and cannulation care between day staff nurses. On the whole, I felt extremely reassured by my first and hopefully, my only stay at Trelisk hospital. Despite obvious challenges being faced by this NHS hospital, staff were on the whole, extremely kind, extremely helpful and very good within their roles. Attention to smaller details would provide this hospital with a standard that matches the quality of care provided by 4/5 of it's employees.
