"Training for physical health nurses on mental..."

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

My arm was recently butchered by a nurse when taking bloods which can be difficult to do as my veins are tiny.I was left badly bruised. This has not happened elsewhere.I was also swaddled during an ultrasound. This is a form of restraint which was certainly not needed as I've had numerous scans and ultrasounds in the past 3 years and have always remained perfectly still.Staff need to be aware that 1 in 4 patients experiences poor mental health at some point in their lives and this is not an indication of their character, intelligence or background.

We're very sorry to hear that you didn't have a great experience at the QE. We'll pass your comments along to the relevant staff and hopefully we can help improve the experience of other patients. If you would like to speak to somebody more officially about this, you can contact our PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison service) on 0800 953 0667 or email them on pals@ghnt.nhs.uk.
