My Father in law,who is 82 years old was referred to the hospital for an x ray after suffering with pain for many years. On arrival at the department he was shown where to get undressed and put the hospital gown on,bearing in mind that he is unable to bend or walk well because of the pain. The radiologist called him several times asking if he was ready yet and began to get very impatient because he was taking him so long. when he actually went into the room for his x ray the radiologist told him to get on the bed and lie down flat,he was unable to do this because of the pain, so he got on the bed and lay with his knees up. They came over to him and asked him if he could lie flat he replied no he was unable to do this,so they pressed his knees down onto the bed telling him that he must do this in order to have the x ray, despite telling them that he couldn't. He cried out in terrible pain and the radiologist shouted at him to stay still. I cannot believe that someone could treat an elderly man in this way, they could possibly tried other positions that were more comfortable for him where they could have taken the required x ray. It has taken the family several years to get him to visit the G.P. and then on to be referred to hospital. This gentleman is a distinguished man who manages every day to complete the smallest of tasks and live through the terrible pain he suffers on a daily basis. This radiologist took all his dignity and pride away from him in a matter of minutes and he continued the day in agony. It will be a long time before we get him to see another Health professional again. All staff should be there to promote the Health service you provide and treat everyone with respect and dignity, and this radiologist should have some training in treating people as individuals who deserve the best treatment money can buy. Its shameful.
"Respect for the elderly."
