We are members of Carers, Family and Friends of Deaf people Forum and we meet once a month at the involvement Centre at Rosewood (New Ollerton) usually on the third Wednesday between 1pm and 3pm. We recently had an extra meeting to celebrate Deaf Awareness week and were pleased to welcome some new faces.
The Deaf Awareness Event was particularly valuable to some of us as it has helped to learn of others experiences and know that we are not alone. We all agree that communication is important and we know that different styles of communicating can lead to misunderstandings and frustrations. Although we know that support and services have improved we would like to see equality for all Deaf people.
We are always keen to expand the group and get more involved in supporting anyone who has an interest to support Deaf people.
It’s nice to be involved with those who understand what you go through. The meeting is a break time away for yourself. We were strangers and now we are friends and even meet outside of the regular forum. We Share difficulties but humour is very important to us it’s not always serious
