"Amazing Experience at Epsom and St Heliers..."

About: St Helier Hospital

I fell off a windsurfer in Greece on Friday 22nd May having done sailing and waterskiing earlier in the day. I knew as I landed on my big toe that I had broken it. I managed to hobble back to my hotel room with my husband and decided to leave all treatment til I got back to UK on Sunday. I went to Epsom A and E Sunday evening 24th May about 7.30pm straight from the plane. I firstly saw a charming triage nurse. I just wish I could remember all the names of the doctors and nurses but if I give times, hopefully they will know who they are. I had to wait til about 10pm to see a lovely doctor who arranged an X-ray. As soon as they saw the sad state of the proximal phalange of my left big toe which was broken in several places, they rang the Orthopaedics department of St Heliers. They said I was to go straight away and they would operate the next day. I was looked after by lovely nurses and a doctor in the night. Next morning (25th May) the consultant came by with their team and recommended surgery that morning which they did. I could not believe that within 24 hours of going to A&E I was going home after wonderful surgery. The treatment by everyone was superb, nothing was too much trouble. One doctor said they had an hour and a half left to work and they would do everything they could in that time to find me an offloading shoe so I could weight bear with my heel. I just want to thank both Epsom A and E and the consultant and the whole team at St Heliers. I will think about you when I eventually get back to running, skiing and other sports. Thank you all so much! Sally Nethercott

Hi Sally, We’ll pass your feedback onto senior staff and hopefully they’ll be able to let the individual staff members involved in your care know how happy you were with your treatment. In the meantime, thanks for your feedback and best of luck with your recovery!
